IMY has published a report on the notifications of personal data breaches received by the authority in 2021. The report shows, among other things, that the healthcare sector has reported a much higher proportion of incidents caused by IT attacks compared to 2020.

The most common type of breach is the incorrect sending of letters, emails or text messages. The most common cause of personal data breaches is the human factor, accounting for nearly 6 out of 10 breaches.

- The high number of incidents due to the human factor underlines the importance of complementing technical security measures with organizational measures, such as governance and support documents, continuous training and other measures to increase the knowledge and awareness of employees.
